Paying for care at home

Families ask about cost first, and they are right to. Here is how care at Olive Branch is usually paid for, and what to do if none of it quite fits.

Private pay

Olive Branch Wellness Inc. is a privately owned and operated home care company, and the majority of our services are private pay. Before anything is booked, you will know the hourly rate and the schedule of care being proposed. No surprises on the first invoice.

Extended health benefits

We provide invoices commonly accepted by extended benefit plans, including Blue Cross, Sun Life and Manulife. Coverage varies from plan to plan, so check your policy before you commit. Ask your extended benefit provider whether nursing and personal support hours are claimable, and what your annual limit is.

Family-Managed Home Care

If your family receives Family-Managed Home Care funding through Ontario Health atHome, you can contract us to provide and manage your nursing or personal support team.

OHIP-funded support

Olive Branch Wellness does not currently provide care hours funded directly through Ontario Health atHome. Becoming an Ontario Health atHome service provider involves a formal qualification and procurement process, and accreditation is part of the path we are working towards.

If you are looking for publicly funded home care, there are still options worth exploring, and you can start the process yourself.

  1. Speak with your family physician or hospital team. Your physician, social worker or another member of your care team may be able to make a referral to Ontario Health atHome.

  2. Contact Ontario Health atHome directly. You can call them at 1-833-515-1234, or visit ontariohealthathome.ca/making-a-referral for more information.

  3. Ask for an assessment. A care coordinator will assess your needs, determine what services you may be eligible for, and discuss what is available in your area.

When you speak with your care coordinator, be as specific as you can about the care that is needed: what is involved day to day, how much support is required, and where you are having difficulty managing safely or consistently.

Ask about Family-Managed Home Care. If you are eligible, it may give you greater choice in who provides your care and how that care is arranged. If Family-Managed Home Care is approved for you, the funding can be used to purchase home care services or employ care providers of your choosing, and that is a funding model Olive Branch can work with.

Workplace injuries or illness (WSIB)

If you are recovering at home from a workplace injury or illness and your care is funded through WSIB, we can provide nursing and personal support services as part of your recovery. Let us know you have WSIB funding when you contact us, and we will coordinate the next steps with you.

Passport funding

If you receive Passport funding, it can be used for eligible personal support and respite services through Olive Branch. Let us know you have Passport funding when you contact us, and we will coordinate the next steps with you.
